About KTM 125 Duke

KTM launched the very latest and 2021 edition of the KTM 125 Duke entry-level version in the product portfolio. The 125 Duke comes for Rs. 170,515 (ex-showroom, New Delhi) which is slightly costlier as compared to the outgoing version. The KTM 125 Duke first arrived in the Indian market back in the year 2018 and was priced at Rs. 1.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The 125 Duke has been updated with new styling tweaks in addition to cutting-edge bodywork along with brand new WP suspension systems.

The 2021 KTM 125 Duke draws design inspiration from the KTM 1290 Super Duke R flagship and the new bodywork has a bigger part of the steel trellis frame chassis exposed. The entry-level model from KTM also comes with the brand new bolt-on rear subframe and a bigger steel fuel tank with higher capacity. KTM has offered two colours, namely Ceramic White and Electronic Orange.

There is also the single cylinder 125 cc engine that dishes out 14.30 bhp and 12 Nm. Output remains similar although the engine now adheres to BS VI norms and the six speed gearbox is paired with single channel ABS and the single front disc.

KTM 125 Duke Expert Review

How is the design of the KTM 125 Duke?

The KTM 125 Duke looks stylish and unlike other regular 125 cc motorcycles. It is a suitably sized naked street motorcycle with the same dimensions as the elder sibling, namely the KTM 200 Duke. The 125 Duke sports almost the same appearance like the 200 Duke since 95% of components are also identical. The chassis, wheels, suspension setup, body panels and instrument cluster are shared with the KTM 200 Duke. In global markets, the 125 Duke comes with a modern styling template inclusive of the 390 Duke inspired design touches and full LED headlight, in the Indian market, the old model is still offered for keeping prices competitive. The design looks sharp and sporty enough although the overall design has a dated feel to it from a global market perspective and in terms of overall road presence. The 125 decals on the fuel tank are the key differentiator for this baby KTM Duke model as compared to the KTM 200 Duke.

How does the KTM 125 Duke ride?

This is the first 125 cc bike that comes with 43 mm upside down forks and preload adjustable monoshock courtesy of WP and also disc rotors for both the wheels that are gripped by Brembo’s brand made in India, namely ByBre (By Brembo). There is single channel ABS as standard too. This level of equipment automatically ensures superior riding quality and experiences which are akin to a few 155-160 top-end premium commuter bikes in the Indian market. The premium parts are all there and the riding dynamics are top-notch. You will want to spend more time riding this bike. Hence, the KTM 125 Duke gets top billing in terms of overall ride quality.

How comfortable is the KTM 125 Duke?

The KTM 125 Duke offers superlative fit and finish and the premium feel extends to the handlebar, switchgear and also the seat material and finish. The perch of the rider is amply wide for superior comfort. There is ample room for moving around when you are cornering this sporty motorcycle. Overall comfort also comes from the superior suspension setup. Comfort-wise, KTM has a winner up its sleeve with the 125 Duke.

How’s the tech?

The KTM 125 Duke gets a series of features including the standard single channel ABS along with the fuel warning indicator, gear indicator, engine kill switch, pass light and fuel gauge. All other latest technologies are available including the TFT instrumentation with in-built smartphone connectivity along with LED lighting as well.

How’s the mileage of the KTM 125 Duke?

The KTM 125 Duke offers good fuel economy of 34.5 kilometres per litre.

How is the performance of the KTM 125 Duke?

The KTM 125 Duke performs reasonably well with its single cylinder DOHC liquid cooled 124.7 cc engine that dishes out 14.30 bhp at 9250 RPM along with 12 Nm of maximum torque. The power output is almost similar to several premium commuter motorcycles in the 155-160 cc sporty bike segment and performance is not thrilling but adequate. The motor has to be going fast for being nudged into a more urgent response. However, the engine responds well to revving and the rev limiter comes in at around 10000 RPM. You will experience higher smoothness and refinement by way of engine feel and acceleration along with near-similar performance as the bigger siblings in the KTM stable. The acceleration levels via the 6-speed transmission system are impressive and the digital speedometer swiftly goes up to the 90 Kmph mark and more although it takes a little time to cross 100 Kmph. It does require some time before the bike can hit impressively high speeds. It can settle into a 90-92 Kmph run nicely for the highway at about 7500 RPM and this is the sweet spot. It is mostly created for city riding including regular commutes and so on. 60-80 Kmph in the city is the sweet spot when the roads are empty and riders will appreciate the refinement and smoothness of the engine greatly.

Is the KTM 125 Duke good value for money?

The KTM 125 Duke is an ideal motorcycle in this category if you are looking for a sportier feel, better performance and some more fun while riding. The bike is stylish, offers decent performance and ample refinement and sophistication with components not found in usual 125 cc commuter bikes available in India. KTM India is clearly tapping younger adults who will be getting their first or second motorcycles although their parents will be more comfortable sanctioning a safer option instead of something that is amply power packed and may go up easily to more dangerous speeds. The KTM 125 Duke offers good road presence along with stellar manners on the road and also an unmatched appeal which will attract younger buyers. Being a 125 cc bike, it may be a comparatively safer choice for younger riders who can start honing their biking capabilities en route towards moving up to bigger and more performance based motorcycles. The KTM 125 Duke also wins brownie points for its affordability and entry-point into the KTM line-up.

People also ask For

  • Is KTM 125 Duke a good bike?

The KTM 125 Duke is a good bike for those looking to buy their first bikes and shopping around in the 125 cc commuter bike segment. It is not boring at all; on the contrary, the styling is modelled on the sporty KTM 200 Duke and road presence is tremendous. Then there is the question of brand value since this bike gives an entry into the KTM product line-up. Alongside, there are advanced features available such as smartphone connectivity and even ABS along with the India-made suspension setup from Brembo. It is the most powerful bike in the 125 cc category with power and torque figures comparable to bikes in the 150-160 cc categories and the same applies in terms of advanced features and equipment. Only pulling power may sometimes feel inadequate but the KTM 125 Duke is a very capable offering otherwise.

  • Is it worth buying KTM 125 Duke?

It is certainly worth buying the KTM 125 Duke if you are looking for something more differentiated from your average 125 cc commuter motorcycle. The KTM 125 Duke comes with highly advanced and sophisticated equipment sourced from the KTM 200 Duke that is absent in 125 cc bikes and even those in the 150-160 cc category. It has the highest power in its category and even higher figures than bikes in higher market segments. Only it may feel slightly inadequate with regard to getting to higher speeds and dual channel ABS could have been provided instead of single channel ABS at this price point. Otherwise, considering the styling, components, equipment and features, road presence and overall performance, it is definitely worth investing in the KTM 125 Duke. The wider MRF tyres are sufficient for the bike and inspire more confidence.

  • Which is better KTM 125 Duke or Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 Not in the same segment.?

The Bajaj Pulsar is a slightly more affordable offering at Rs. 1.31 lakh (ex-showroom) while the KTM 125 Duke is way costlier at Rs. 1,76,000 (ex-showroom). At the same time, the Pulsar offers near-similar fuel economy figures of 35 Kmpl while the 125 Duke offers 34.5 Kmpl approximately. The good part is that the Pulsar has a 199.5 cc engine dishing out 23.17 bhp and 18.3 Nm of maximum torque. The Duke on the other hand has a smaller and less powerful 124.7 cc engine making 14.30 bhp and 12 Nm of maximum torque. The KTM 125 Duke has 10.2 litres in total fuel tank capacity as compared to 12 litres for the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200. Value-wise, the NS 200 could be a better option although the 125 Duke does have its own merits.

  • Which model of KTM 125 Duke is best?

There is only a single variant of the KTM 125 Duke and this is the STD BS-VI variant that is fully loaded. This is the best variant that is worth purchasing, since it gets everything from single channel ABS to smartphone connectivity and a powerful engine among other attributes.

KTM 125 Duke Vs. Competition

The Yamaha MT-15 is priced at Rs. 1.4 lakh (ex-showroom) and positioned in a higher category technically with its 155 cc engine that makes 19 bhp and 15 Nm of maximum torque. It has 11 litres of fuel tank capacity while offering mileage of 48 Kmpl. In comparison, the 124.7 cc engine in the KTM 125 Duke makes an impressive 14.30 bhp and 12 Nm of maximum torque, considering the segment. The KTM 125 Duke has 10.2 litres of fuel tank capacity. However, it is considerably more expensive than the MT-15 at Rs. 1,76,000 (ex-showroom). Yet, for enthusiasts, it is still a value proposition and a foothold into the premier KTM motorcycle range. At the same time, the Yamaha MT-15 makes for a better value proposition at its sizably lower price.

The Bajaj Pulsar is cheaper at Rs. 1.31 lakh (ex-showroom) than the KTM 125 Duke which retails for Rs. 1,76,000 (ex-showroom) in India. The Pulsar NS 200 offers almost similar mileage at 35 Kmpl while the KTM 125 Duke offers 34.5 Kmpl. The latter dishes out 14.30 bhp and 12 Nm while the former makes 23.17 bhp and 18.3 Nm from its 199.5 cc engine. The KTM 125 Duke comes with a 124.7 cc engine. The KTM 125 Duke has 10.2 litres of fuel tank capacity while the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 has 12 litres of fuel tank capacity. Value-wise, the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200 may be a better option while KTM enthusiasts may not mind paying the extra premium for entering the KTM product line-up in India.

The KTM 125 Duke is priced from Rs. 1,76,000 (ex-showroom) onwards, while getting a 124.7 cc engine that makes 14.30 bhp and 12 Nm of torque. It also offers 10.2 litres of fuel tank capacity along with overall fuel economy of 34.5 Kmpl. At the same time, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is priced substantially lower at Rs. 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards and comes with a more powerful 197.8 cc engine that makes 20.20 bhp and 16.8 Nm of maximum torque. Mileage is also decent at 32 Kmpl. Fuel tank capacity is also higher at 12 litres. Value-wise, this seems to be a better choice although KTM enthusiasts will disagree for various reasons.

Its an awesome bike The price looks so high while comparing with the mt 15. The mt 15 is little more powerful that the duke 125 but the duke had a lot of features than mt. The duke comes with USD forks, trellis frame, aluminum swingarm, bigger tires, bigger brakes ,best exhaust note. While riding duke 125 we can feel the aggression of the KTM engine.

All You Need to Know About the 125 Duke

The baby Duke delivers what is expected of it, particularly in a price sensitive market such as India.

The international spec has not been introduced by KTM in the Indian market. The company has rather taken a whole new approach to things. Instead of resembling the KTM 390 Duke like the global counterpart, the KTM 125 Duke in India takes most of its design cues and components from the KTM 200 Duke with a view towards keeping costs mostly in check.

The 125 Duke is considerably costlier than most other models in the 125 cc commuter segment although it is the most affordable KTM model in the brand’s line-up.

The graphics have been revised by KTM on this entry-level offering with a view towards differentiating the same from its sibling. It has the identical digital instrument cluster along with distance to empty and service indicators along with readouts such as average fuel economy and real-time fuel efficiency and also the tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer.

There is a shift indicator for the console that is positioned in the center in addition to telltale lights placed over the speedometer. Such a console is absent in all present 125 cc motorcycles in India and for some 150-160 cc category bikes as well.

The KTM 125 Duke makes use of a single cylinder 124.7 cc engine that gets liquid cooling attributes in addition to a six speed transmission system. This is a first in segment feature. It is also the most powerful 125 cc bike in the country with 14.30 bhp and 12 Nm of maximum power and torque figures.

It produces similar power as 160 cc bikes retailed in the Indian market including the Honda CB Hornet 160R and Suzuki Gixxer. Both these bikes churn out 14.5 bhpand 13.4 bhp

None of the 125 cc or even 160 cc motorcycle models in the country have 6 speed transmission systems like the KTM 125 Duke. The extra cog enables extraction of higher power while achieving top speed that is significantly higher.

The KTM 125 Duke also comes with top-class mechanical components sourced from the KTM 200 Duke. These include the swingarm, trellis frame, rear monoshock and USD front forks. The latter two come from WP.

The braking setup is the same as the KTM 200 Duke. There is single channel ABS for the front 300 mm and rear 230 mm disc brakes. There are also 17 inch front and rear alloy wheels.

They are neatly wrapped in 110-section and 150-section MRF Revz tyres.

The smaller 125 cc engine makes optimal usage of the fuel tank capacity of 10.2 litres

with a view towards offering good mileage.

Kerb weight stands at 148 Kg which makes the KTM 125 Duke the heaviest motorcycle in its category.
