About Bajaj Pulsar NS200

When it was first launched in the year 2001, it was already evident how successful the later models were going to be. Even though there have been several improvements and changes made to the look, feel and ride quality of this bike, its raw nature and power are what drives its market value through the roof. If you are an avid bike fan, you must know about this bike. However, if you are not and are looking to invest in one that suffices all standard requirements of a two-wheeler, it cannot get better than this. Further mentioned in this article is all the information you need about the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS and if it is worth the purchase.

While the Bajaj Pulsar line-up started with two models in 2001, namely the 150 cc variant and 180 cc variant, this chain of motorbikes have come a long way since then. Although there were not many bigger capacity engine bikes at the time, there was surely some interest and a market for such bikes. Ever since its introduction in the market, there has been quite a positive response. In addition to that, the Indian youth started expecting high-performance bikes along with other standard features at more reasonable prices. In a way, the Bajaj Pulsar line-up revolutionised the Indian bike industry for the better.

That said, the real game-changer was when Bajaj revealed their newest development for the year 2008, the Pulsar 200 SF. SF, short for the street fighter, was welcomed with open arms in the market mainly because of the sheer power it produced. Along with that, it also enhanced some of the more innovative features like a new digital console, self-cancelling indicators, oil cooler and other similar features like fuel injection technology. However, given such new yet practical and fascinating features, the 200 cc Pulsars were fairly high-priced, and this significantly affected Bajaj Pulsar's target audience and overall sales in the market. This is why 2008 200 SF was later discontinued and replaced with a newer and faster 220 cc Pulsar, which came with a carburettor instead of fuel injection. This resulted in a considerable cost reduction, and Pulsar was back to being a household name once again.

The bike looked good, had the necessary and latest features and was quite powerful when in comparison with the other two-wheelers of the time. It used a revised liquid-cooled 200 cc engine which was based on the KTM 200 Duke and was undoubtedly the right choice. This bike has quite a powerful engine, which is also quite efficient when compared to the other bikes in this segment. With a couple of intricate changes to the engine from the Bajaj, the 200 cc engine can produce a peak torque of 18.3 Nm @ 8,000 RPM with a maximum power of 23.17 bhp@ 9,500 RPM. These numbers are as impressive on paper as they are on the road. Before the Bajaj pulsar 200 NS, not a lot of mid-range commercial bikes could achieve these numbers and was surely this two-wheeler’s claim to fame.

When it came to designing, Bajaj revamped the whole look of the Pulsar line-up. This bike especially was designed by their lead designer, who goes by the name of Edgar Heinrich, but later left Bajaj to join BMW Motorrad. All in all, this bike showed promising results in the motorbike industry and quickly became a staple for the company. There have been a lot of renditions of the Pulsar 200 NS in the coming years, with its latest model being launched in the year 2017 with a single channel ABS variant and new colour scheme. Keep reading this review further to know more about the latest model of the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS.

Bajaj Pulsar NS200 Expert Review

How is the design of Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS?

AS mentioned earlier, the design of the new Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is quite unconventional and bright for the brand’s image. For almost a decade, there was a very significant design language to the pulsar line-up, each one looking like its predecessor with a few minor changes. However, this time Bajaj Auto took the game to a whole new level. Taking from a Naked-sports bike overview, Bajaj has replaced their staple bulging oil tank, which goes with the overall look of the bike. However, the re-design took a hit on its fuel tank capacity and brought it down to 12.1 Litres.

That said, the plastic panels accompanying it sure do help accentuate the look of this bike. It has sharp features, with a smaller headlamp, giving it a much more aggressive stance when viewed from the front. On the side of the bike, you will not see much but heavy straight lines, which are flush with the body giving it a compact yet muscular feel. The rear of the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS has not changed, apart from a newer LED taillight, wider tyres and the missing exhaust. The exhaust is neatly tucked under the bike, which not only helps them look but aids weight distribution as well, giving it a more balanced feel.

How does the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS Ride?

The ride quality of the bike is something that Bajaj has taken extra care of since it was always resonant with the Pulsar line-up. With the seat height being a very comfortable 805 mm, the ride quality of this bike is not very difficult. The posture of the rider is maintained, and there is enough room to move as well. The motorcycle is undoubtedly easy to handle and flick and quick stable on the ground. This is quite an improvement from past pulsars because although they were heavy enough to be stable, they never really were fun around corners. With sharp brakes and a twin-spar pressed steel frame, this is surely a very well-built bike to ride. It gets a 280 mm petal disc brake in the front and a 230 mm disc brake on the rear wheel, both of which have floating callipers. Even though the bike has a slight issue of a rear-wheel lock when it comes to braking hard, it sure did keep a straight line for the most part, which is a massive improvement from its prior models.

While riding the bike, it is very evident how much stiffer the suspension is than the other Pulsars. With twin fork suspension in the front and a mono-shock for the back, the bike provides nice ride quality both on rugged roads as well as city roads. Another improvement on the 200 NS is the knee recess provided with it. While taking corners, the motorcycle holds its ground and provides decent support to lean into the turn. The overall ride quality of the new Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS has been quite improved if compared to other models in this segment or even its predecessor.

How comfortable is Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS?

Bajaj is known to be a very consumer-centric brand and comes out with some of the most sold mid-range bikes. One of the most important things to consider in this segment is comfort since the target audience of bikes like the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is rather young and will be using the bikes for everyday purposes. Bajaj has kept this in mind and ensured to add all the necessary features in the bike that make it comfortable for both the rider and the pillion.

It has a wide, long seat that is quite well-cushioned and can fit three passengers, including the driver, easily. However, most countries have rules against this, so make sure you have checked with the legalities. Apart from that, you will get wider tyres that grip the road better and offer better slanting positions while making a turn. As mentioned before, this bike can do a high speed of 140 Kmph, which is quite impressive. However, you can feel minor vibrations at such high speeds. This is true even for lower speeds which go to say that the all-new Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is not the best companion for cruise rides or very long rides. However, the bike handle and seat have been positioned in such a way that it offers the best seating positing for the rider, avoiding back injuries or discomfort. All in all, this is quite a well-built bike for city drives, and every commute, however, can be quite tiresome for long distances.

How’s the tech?

In terms of technology, Bajaj has always been known to be the innovator of the industry. They have tried to introduce certain new features with every Pulsar model they have launched over the past couple of years, and somehow it has always worked. This time as well, they have left no stone unturned to make the new Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS feel more with the times and brand new. Although it takes a lot of inspiration from the KTM Duke 200, you cannot take away any credit from the engineers over at Bajaj for introducing some amazing and mass-favoring solutions.

It comes with an all-new digital instrument cluster that not only looks futuristic but also helps the rider understand and know all of the necessary information about the bike. The console is quite easy to read, even in bright sunlight and has certain necessary controls that one might need to set to make the features more accessible and personable. With bold and bright characters for speed, the instrument cluster also has certain other important information, for instance, a side-stand notify, battery check and oil information. The handle controls are quite basic and nothing new. However, since the BS-VI model has daylight requirements, the light switches have been replaced.

How’s the mileage of Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS?

There is no doubt that the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS has quite a powerful engine; however, as it is very synonymous with Bajaj, it is quite efficient as well. Even though less than its predecessors, this bike can provide up to 35 Kmpl in perfect road conditions and comes with a 12.1-litre oil tank. Added to that is a reserve fuel capacity of 2 litres.

How is the performance of Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS?

The Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS has quite a powerful engine. The engine can produce a peak torque of 18.3 Nm @ 8000 rpm and a maximum power of 23.17 bhp @ 9500 rpm. These numbers are quite impressive for a bike of this segment. Along with that, the engine is quite efficient and provides great mileage for city rides. One thing to notice is the low and mid-range performance of this bike is not too good.

Is the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS good value?

With the basic information mentioned here, it can be safely said that the BajajPulsar 200 NS is quite a safe buy. If you are looking to upgrade from an older version of Pulsar or any other similar bike to a more powerful, well-thought and capable bike, this should be the choice. However, if you have already purchased the previous 200 NS, the upgrade can be skipped. There is not much improvement in terms of engine capacity or overall performance of the bike. The few changes are mostly with its physical appearance and ride quality. To put it in simple words, this bike is a good value if your previous purchase is dated.

Pros & Cons of Pulsar NS200

pros

Pros

  • Offers better performance even with the BS-VI constraints

  • Fortunately for better fuelling, the engine is a lot more capable of producing better power

  • Handling has been improved and a lot better in corners

cons

Cons

  • Physical appearance is kind of dated

  • It does not provide enough bottom and mid-range performance

  • Rear monoshock can sometimes feel very stiff for regular city bumps

Final Verdict on Pulsar NS200

The bike doesn’t have many exciting features or any killer looks. It has got that plain jane looks of the past. This bike may be attractive to some college-going kids. It is not as best selling as the RS 200. The bike is not pricey either. The pulsar 200 is pricier.

Opinions and Assumptions

It’s definitely not the best in terms of handling and road safety. But its economical price has ranked it higher in terms of its demand in the market. This bike definitely has some fresh appeal and some never-before features. It’s a complete package for a particular young segment of the crowd. If you ride this bike, you will be getting some mixed feelings. The balance of the bike is quite praiseworthy owing to its chassis. You will enjoy the ride better on the city roads compared to other roads. The bike won’t be so good for fast track riding or riding on the ghats.

People also ask For

  • Is Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS a good bike?

Very honestly, the two-wheeler industry has seldom seen such a well-received and well-made bike. There is attention to intricate detail from the manufacturer, and no part of the bike feels cheap. With premium materials and good ride quality, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is surely a good bike. That said, it will only be a good investment if you are more about small city trips and not cruising or long rides on the bike. While the ride quality is quite impressive for a naked sportbike, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is not very comfortable for long rides.

  • Is it worth buying Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS?

Given the information mentioned in this review, it is quite evident that at this price range, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS offers the most features and convenience. To put it simply, buying this bike is surely worth the investment. On top of that, you will also get the after-sale services and guarantee of Bajaj, a well-known brand in the automobile industry.

  • Which is better, Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS or KTM Duke 200?

Although both these bikes are quite similar, and the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS takes a lot from the KTM duke, if you are looking to buy a bike that suffices all your standard needs, you should go for the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS. In addition to that, it is also a tad bit cheaper than the KTM Duke but surely comes with the same features and a similarly punchy engine.

  • Which model of Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is best?

Unfortunately, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS only comes in one variant, and all other models of this bike have been discontinued by Bajaj. You can buy the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS BS-VI variant for Rs. 1.35 Lakh in the market.

Bajaj Pulsar NS200 Vs. Competition

As mentioned quite a few times in this review, both these bikes are very similar. Starting from the engine to the body type and even power output, there are various similarities. However, the KTM Duke 200 is a lot lighter and looks leaner than the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS. Along with that, it has better mid-range performance and pick-up times.

Very recently launched, the Apache RTR 200 4V is the newest addition to TVS's naked bike portfolio and quite a good one at it. Coming at a lower price, although the Apache RTR 200 4V cannot compete with the Bajaj Pulsar's performance, it sure does make up in looks and build quality.

With this information, it is evident how the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is a worthwhile purchase. If you are still skeptical, you can wait for a few more months till the new version launches in the commercial market.

All You Need to Know About the Pulsar NS200

There is no doubt that Bajaj has forever been one of the top brands in the automobile industry. With bikes catering to the mid-range section, all the way up to sports bikes. However, their commercial success was more evident with the introduction of the Pulsar line-up.

Given the success of the 220 CC Pulsar, The few years after that, there were no such new entries in the market, and Bajaj mostly invested in coming up with a new design language and colour schemes for the already launched models of Pulsar. Gradually, Bajaj started losing its potential customers given the repetitive design structure and performance of its bike and realised it was time to come up with something new. This is when, in the year 2012, Bajaj introduced their latest design language with the Pulsar 200 NS (NS being short for Naked-Sport). This was when the whole game changed for both Pulsar's market and Bajaj as a brand.

It also introduced the new triple-spark design, in addition to the four-valve SOHC, to the market. Even though this bike does not come with a fuel-injected engine like its predecessor, it does not leave any stone unturned in living up to the name. Starting from a gas-charged mono-shock to petal disc brakes in the front and disc brake in the back, the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS was quite an impressive purchase then as well.
