About Honda CB Unicorn 160

The HMSI or Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India manufactured the Honda Unicorn in the year 2004. The two-seater commuter bike was launched keeping in mind the road conditions of India. Some of the latest features of Unicorn 160 are a digital speedometer, digital tachometer, pillion seat and grabrail, clock, fuel gauge, trip meter count, digital trip meter type, and pass light. The only variant offered is the Honda Unicorn 160 STD. It has a 4 stroke, SI, Petrol Engine with an engine displacement of 162.7 cc. The engine generates a maximum power of 13.82 bhp @ 8000 rpm and reaches a peak torque of 13.92 Nm @ 6000 rpm. The bike functions at a 5-speed gearbox manual transmission. Honda CB Unicorn 160 Expert Review

How is the design of Honda CB Unicorn 160?

The Honda CB Unicorn 160 is meant for a mature audience with its compact front design. On the sides, there is a combination of silver and black cladding. The exhaust and all-black engine treatment look good. The LED taillight that is H-shaped is a unique touch to the overall design of the commuter bike. The mirrors at the rear offer good visibility of the road. Unlike most commuter bikes between 150-180 cc, the Honda CB Unicorn 160 has a single-piece seat, single-piece grabrail, full chaincase, gear-shift lever (heel-toe), and thinner tyres. The all-digital instrument console displays a fuel meter, twin trip meters, an odometer, speedometer, clock, and tachometer. But the bike lacks a gear-shift indicator, engine-kill switch (thumb-operated) and side stand warning indicator. It has forward-set foot pegs and gives an upright seating position. The design of the commuter bike is quite functional. But youngsters will not find it attractive in comparison with other bikes in the segment.

How does the Honda CB Unicorn 160 ride?

The Honda CB Unicorn 160 quickly gains pace and is worth the experience. The bike has excellent in-gear acceleration and a very responsive engine. The first gear itself has a punch and the ability to reach 50 kmph. The Unicorn 160 weighs about 135 kg and feels light. It generates a power of 14.5 bhp which is not too much, but it still can leave behind other sporty bikes in a straight track race. In a road test, the Unicorn 160 bike reached 60 kmph within 5 seconds and crossed 100 kmph in around 15 seconds. On shifting to third gear, the bike moves from 60 kmph to 90 kmph. The bike easily touches 106 kmph in a fraction of time. You can keep track of the mileage with the help of the speedometer on the digital instrument console. The Unicorn 160 is an ideal commuter bike as it is quick and lightweight. It is also simple to make gear shifts in heavy traffic conditions. The gear-shift lever is commuter-friendly. It has effective brakes but lacks a rear disc brake. One thing that might put off youngsters is the riding position that makes riding around corners difficult. The tyres are MRF Zapper that gives a good grip.

How comfortable is Honda CB Unicorn 160?

One of the best safety features introduced in the Honda CB Unicorn 160 commuter bike is the AHO feature. The AHO illuminates the road no matter what the light conditions and type of weather the rider is riding the bike in. This makes maneuvering the bike easy and smooth for the rider. The brake setup has a combination of equalizer and CBS that ensures a more efficient braking mechanism. In case the bike faces a puncture, the tubeless tyres do not deflate that moment itself. This increases the stability quotient of the bike and gives extra time to the rider to reach any nearby tyre repairing workshop. The commuter bike has an impressively long seat that ensures a comfortable seating place for two people. The 160 cc segment Honda CB Unicorn 160 bike offers great performance along with aggressive appeal and fuel economy. The suspension assembly manages bumps, potholes and undulations in a stress-free manner. Overall, the bike offers a comfortable riding experience to both the pillion and the rider.

How’s the tech?

The 160 cc commuter bike comes with AHO or Automatic Headlamp On, CBS or Combi brake system, and an appealing new matte blue painted body. The engine of Honda CB Unicorn 160 is much more refined and performs great than other commuter bikes of the 160 cc segment. The bike complies with the BS-IV emission norm compliance. Some of the latest tech features added to the Honda CB Unicorn 160 bike is the digital speedometer, digital tachometer, fuel gauge, digital trip meter type, trip meter count, clock, and pass light.

How’s the mileage of Honda CB Unicorn 160?

The Unicorn 160 bike has an engine displacement of 162.7 cc and generates a maximum power of 14.5 bhp and torque of 14.6 Nm. The refinement level of the Honda engines is quite high. The mileage of CB Unicorn 160 is about 62 kmpl. The fuel tank capacity of the bike is 11 Litres.

How is the performance of Honda CB Unicorn 160?

The engine of the bike is quite smooth just like the other bikes manufactured by Honda. The gear shift is quick to respond and feels tremendously comfortable in the mid-range. The bike does not vibe much on the handlebars and the pegs. Its other siblings vibe harder than the Honda CB Unicorn 160. What make it ideal for city riding are its short-gear ratios.

Is the Honda CB Unicorn 160 good value for money?

The Honda CB Unicorn 160 is not as flashy, sporty, and aggressive as the FZ series, the Pulsars and the Apaches. This commuter bike stays true to its authentic character of being a fuel-efficient, powerful and great performer. The biggest competitor or rival of the Unicorn 160 is its sibling- Trigger. It is slightly better in performance and is available at almost the same price.

Using this bike for 2.5 years.Best bike for city and highway. Riding long distance is fun. Skeptical about buying this over unicorn 150. but his bike has good punch and riding balance better than 150.It is very easy to ride in traffic than any other bike. Better than gixxer and FZ in many things like comfort and fuel economy and service network and cost .Suspension improved after 6 months. Moreover this bike engine 162.71cc is shared by hornet , new hornet 2018 and upcoming X blade. So we can get critical spares and swap better critical components in future. Moreover its very easy on maintenance.I think this bike is going to stay with me long time.

This bike is special because its designed considering pillion rider too. Even with pillion the handling is fantastic.I purchased 2017 model , improves headlight design and side panels quality.Black colour and new stickers design.I saw my friend unicorn 160 , the engine is good after 3 years and maintenance is good , provided if service guys are good. one problem is chain sprocket wear high . needs to adjust every 400 km.but cost of kit is vey low than gixxer and fz and spares cost i low than yamaha and bajaj fed up with quality of pares from bajaj discover and RE thunderbird thats why went to Honda .
