About BMW S 1000 RR

In 2009, the BMW Motorrad manufactured a racing sports bike to compete in the Superbike World Championship. At present, the racing sports bike is in commercial production and is called the BMW S 1000 RR. I was first introduced in Munich in the year 2008, April. The production of BMW S 1000 RR was expanded for commercial sale in 2010. The sports bike is formidable because of its aerodynamic look and top-shelf accessories. The upgraded version of the BMW S 1000 RR motorbike is expected to be launched in India in June 2021. There are three variants offered by the sports bike- Pro BS6, STD BS6 and Pro M Sport BS6. It is a two-seater European made sports bike with several high performing features. The bike has a 4-cylinder 4-stroke and 4-titanium valves petrol engine with an engine displacement of 999 cc. The sports bike also has a BMW ShiftCam. S 1000 RR has a mileage of about 12 kmpl with a fuel capacity of 16.5 L. Some of the standard features of the sports bike are a self-start engine, aluminum cast wheels, ABS dual-channel, Tubeless tyres, LED tail lights, Low fuel warning, pass switch, digital speedometer, digital trip meter, passenger footrest, clock and many more. BMW S 1000 RR Expert Review

How is the design of BMW S 1000 RR?

The new suspension technology along with the frame layout makes the sports bike more precise and lighter. The fairing design and modified frame give the perfect seating position. The LED headlights come as a standard feature that looks dynamic. The front indicators look aesthetically pleasing and provide improved stability. The motto of the RR sports bike is “All-in-one”. The quality of the RR bike dominates in both functionality and design. The number plate has LED turn signals, brake lights and tail lights. One big reason that has contributed to making its presence felt is the asymmetrical headlamps. The BMW Motorrad takes up the new design language. The body works, firing, and the panels are brand new and get symmetrical projector LED headlamps. The BMW S 1000 RR is a very handsome looking sports bike.

How does the BMW S 1000 RR ride?

The 1000 RR is meant for experienced riders and not for beginners. Even experienced riders must not take the motorcycle lightly. The first thing you will notice about the bike is that it feels compact and small just like a supersport bike. The engine generates a power of 204 bhp that is enough to get high-speed performance. But it is one thing to go fast in a straight road but another to handle the speed around corners and twisted roads. The Dynamic Damping Control shifts within milliseconds. It is offered in the M Sport Pro and Pro variants only. The wind deflector helps in deflecting the wind and improves the riding quality and aerodynamics to some extent. The 17-inch front and rear tyres help in keeping the enormous sports bike stuck to the track. The ShiftCam technology performs its function very well when you run the bike on Race Mode.

How comfortable is BMW S 1000 RR?

The BMW S 1000 RR has a lean fuel tank and trimmed seating area providing knee grip and improved support. The all-new RR is lighter and has perfect ergonomics. The frame, tail, tank, seat and footpegs have been modified for greater support, more feedback, freedom of movement and good knee closure. The ergonomics of the handlebar and milled footpegs along with the M seat allows the rider to ride longer and comfortably. The riders get a perfect overview of all the required information on the 6.5 MID or Multi-Information Display. The multi-controller provides quick access and connectivity functions. You can also use the media and phone functions without installing an app. The upgraded RR is also equipped with a six-axis IMU or Inertial Measuring Unit that powers the Dynamic Traction Control and cornering ABS. The STD variant is offered with four riding modes- Road, Rain, Race and Dynamic. The M Sport Pro is offered with 3 riding modes- Race Pro 1, 2 and 3. These riding modes are easily adaptable and the diverse functions can be controlled such as engine throttle, traction control, engine braking, ABS, wheelie control and ABS Pro as per the rider’s riding style and skill. Launch control is another feature that comes together with Pro-Modes. The best variant lacks tyre pressure control while it is a standard feature in both M Sport Pro and Pro variants.

How’s the tech?

The all-new S 1000 RR comes with four standard riding modes- Rain, Road, Race and Dynamic.

The three Pro modes have features such as a pit-lane speed limiter and launch control added by the company. The sports bike has other tech features like a sensor cluster that controls the dynamic traction control, ABS, engine braking control and wheelie control. It also has a TFT instrument cluster of 6.5-inch and Bluetooth connectivity. The next-gen DTC has more efficient, safer and powerful traction control with more forward momentum. The DTC support becomes powerful and smooth because of the new 6 axis sensor control and torque control.

How’s the mileage of BMW S 1000 RR?

The mileage of BMW S 1000 RR has a mileage of about 12 kmpl with a fuel tank capacity of 16.5 litres. The 4-cylinder petrol engine has an engine displacement of 999 cc. the engine generates a maximum power of 204 bhp and a peak torque of 113 Nm with a 6-speed gearbox. The Shift cam technology varies the stroke and valve timings that offer better performance in the mid-range and bottom end. The new-gen engine is lighter than the previous one and has a lighter exhaust too. The new model weighs 11 kg lighter than the old gen model.

How is the performance of BMW S 1000 RR?

The BMW S 1000 RR is a perfect partner when looking for a top-performing sports bike. The optional M Package available can be used to turn your bike into the ultimate racing sports bike. In the new-gen 1000 RR, several components have been adopted to optimize the space, weight and design of the machine. Some of the improvised features include hollow drilled titanium valves, a new timing concept, an anti-hopping wet clutch and a self-reinforcing multi-disc. The lighter engine offers improved ergonomics and handling.

Is the BMW S 1000 RR a good value?

Some of the standard features that make the BMW S 1000 RR a good value for money are Digital speedometer, analogue tachometer, fuel warning indicator, gear indicator, low oil indicator, fuel gauge, pillion grabrail and seat, engine kill switch, digital trip meter type, trip meter count, pass light, clock and more. Seriously BMW motorad has done commendable job as SS1000RR is great bike. I bought this machine in September 2019 M Pro variant and completed almost 15000 kms. I'm using it for mostly touring and daily commuting. I've done 3-4 tracks on BIC, believe me it feels like rocket while speeding. If you're planning to buy a superbike you should definitely consider it.
