Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that it will continue to sell the current generation Scorpio in India, even after the launch of the new-gen model, dubbed as Mahindra Scorpio Classic. The new-gen model, which has been christened Mahindra Scorpio-N, will go on sale in India on June 27, 2022. While the company hasn't shared any additional details for this decision, in its official statement, Mahindra did say that the current Scorpio has evolved over the last two decades as an iconic and cult brand.

Now, the new-gen Mahindra Scorpio-N will be a much more premium product, offering new looks, improved features and tech, and also, new engines. In fact, it's based on the company's more advanced ladder-on-frame chassis, which currently underpins the new Thar, and Mahindra will also offer a 4x4 option. All these changes and expected to lead to a huge bump in prices. By continuing to offer the Scorpio Classic, Mahindra will be able to offer a more affordable option for price-sensitive customers, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 markets.

Mahindra Scorpio is offered in five variants - S3+, S5, S7, S9, and S11, and it's priced between ₹ 13.30 lakh and ₹ 18.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The SUV comes with a 2.2-litre diesel engine that is offered in two states of tune. The former is tuned to make 119 bhp at 4000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 240 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm, and it comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the more powerful version makes 137 bhp at 3750 rpm and a peak torque of 319 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
