Tata Motors has launched the CNG variants of its popular entry-level model - Tiago hatchback and Tigor subcompact sedan. Now, the carmaker used to offer the Tata Nano with a company fitted CNG kit, however, the model was discontinued a few years ago. Now the company has re-entered the CNG car segment and will take on rivals like the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG and the Hyundai Santro CNG. And to know which one of these CNG hatchbacks offer better value for your money, we did a quick price comparison.

Now the Tata Tiago iCNG comes in four variants - XE, XM, XT and XZ+, and are priced at ₹ 6.10 lakh, ₹ 6.40 lakh, ₹ 6.70 lakh, and ₹ 7.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. In comparison, the Hyundai Santro CNG is offered in two variants - Magna and Sportz, priced at ₹ 6.10 lakh and ₹ 6.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is offered in only one CNG variant, the VXI, and it's priced at ₹ 6.58 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio's VXI trim is the mid-spec variant and is equivalent to the XM variant of the Tiago, which makes the former expensive by ₹ 18,000. Now, both gets dual airbags, however, the Tiago also offers corner stability control, adjustable front headrests, digital instrument cluster as standard. While the Celerio gets full wheel covers, the Tiago gets them only with the XT variant, which is ₹ 12,000 more expensive. however, it also gets LED indicators, electrically adjustable ORVMs and a cooled glovebox, which are missing in the Celerio.

Now in the case of the Santro, the Magna and Sportz variants are largely equivalent to the XM and XT variants of the Tiago. That makes the Santro's Magna and Sportz variants cheaper by ₹ 40,000 and close to ₹ 30,000 respectively. But for that premium, you get better features like dual front airbags instead of just the driver airbag on Hyundai Santro, corner stability control, adjustable front headrests, digital instrument cluster as standard. On the other hand, the Sportz trim of Santro gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is only offered in the Tiago's XZ+ variant. However, the Tiago's enter-level XE trims offers better value than the Santro's Magna and is available at the same price.

So, in terms of pricing, there is just a minor difference between the three models. But the fact that the Tiago is offered in more variants gives it's a better edge, especially the top-end XZ+ trim with gets LED DRLs projector headlights, 8-speaker sound system, auto AC, alloy wheels, and more that makes a better option for those looking for better creature comforts. So, on paper, we believe the Tiago iCNG offer better value, however, we will be driving the car soon so keep watching this space for our review.
