About Bajaj Pulsar RS 200

One of the most renowned names in the motorcycle industry, Bajaj has revealed its most-awaited sports bike, the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200. It is the latest model of the popular Bajaj Pulsar line that first made headlines in 2001. Pulsar also happens to be the most successful brand of Bajaj. Hence, the excitement for Pulsar RS 200 among bike enthusiasts is wholly justified.

What’s even more interesting is that Pulsar not only delivered successful bikes one after the other, but the discontinuation of the models was also minimal, something which, unfortunately, the Bajaj Discover brand is known for.

So one might wonder, how Pulsar manages to pull this off while its competitors failed. One of the biggest reasons behind Pulsar’s popularity is the accurate mixture of styling, performance and noise, which appealed to the budding bikers.

But Bajaj knows that what worked then might not work today. Their consumers are now looking for upgrades with a desire for a new age Pulsar. That’s precisely why Bajaj came up with the new Pulsar RS200! It is also claimed to be the fastest Pulsar with a top speed of 140.8 Kmph.

Let’s first discuss the design and aesthetics. The look of RS is inspired by NS200. Hence, we witness the identical suspension front and rear, similar perimeter frame, and even the wheels are alike. But here’s the fun part, while the tyres are identical in specification, they are also one of MRF’s best productions.

In terms of styling, you can also notice the resemblance between the switchgear, instrumentation, and the fuel tank.

The sports bike is available in three different shades, Burnt Red, Metallic Pearl White and Pewter Grey.

When it comes to performance and comfort, the RS200 has similar mechanics as the Pulsar NS200. One might also take an educated guess that since the new Pulsar model is about 20 kg heavier, it might be more physically tiring and cumbersome to ride. But surprisingly, one doesn’t feel the load of its front heavyweight bias or its sittings. In addition, the ride is more comfortable due to the ergonomic enhancement of the seat.

Bajaj has also improved the handlebar to assist in turning without messing with the fairing by making it taller and positioning it forward. Conversely, the footpegs have been shifted to the rear. This offers a seating position that is adaptable for both crouched down track racing or touring sitting straight.

Enhancements have been made in riding and handling. Whether you want to make quick direction changes or savour the corners, the RS200 never disappoints. Added to this are MRF’s gripped tyres and top-quality chassis. The ride is assured to be smooth and pleasant.

Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 Expert Review

How is the design of Pulsar RS 200?

We can certainly agree that Pulsar RS 200 is the most attractive bike featuring the Bajaj Logo. The overall design is aggressive due to the heavy front. You can notice the Japanese touch on the bike, but the blend is ideal for giving a new design language to this beast of a bike. If you pay closer attention, the position of the headlamps resembles the character of a rattlesnake which suggests the aggression of the bike.

The dual-LED pilot lamps are combined with small decals gives an added spirit to the design. The indicators resemble the ones on the KTM Duke 200. The sports bike also features a colossal windscreen which can be pretty handy while riding.

The side profile of the bike looks very hawkish. The romance of RS200 with decals is pretty visible. Adding to that is the deep and sharp creases of the multi-panel fairing. Both of them combined make it look a bit overdone but not unpleasant to the eyes.

If you look at the perimeter frame, it’s pretty visible but has been designed not to hinder the eye but rather complement the body. The cowl close to the engine functions more like aerodynamic assistance rather than covering the engine. Bajaj has finely integrated the fuel tank, which is neither bulky nor sharp. The most appealing feature of the new tank is the horizontally positioned cushioned tank pad.

Another new addition is on the tail section, where Bajaj has taken a new design approach by integrating grab bars with the tail component. It seems to be inspired by the Kawasaki Ninja 300. The tail-light cluster is also a new addition. The new exhaust is also well-designed which beautifully aligns with the overall design.

The only minor complaint a typical Pulsar biker would have from Bajaj is a better fit and finish. Still, when you consider the overall look, the design is so communicative that it’s not hard to guess that it’s majorly targeting young bikers and college students.

How does the Pulsar RS 200 ride?

While it looks like a super sports bike, the Pulsar RS 200 cannot be compared to the likes of KTM 1290 Super Duke, Honda CBR1000RR-R, or Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX. But having said that, it sure gives the feels of a super sports bike to the rider.

With the footpegs shifted closer to the rear and the raised handlebar, the riding position allows an added comfort while riding. The primary reason behind this upgrade is to offer the option of racing down the track along while cruising through the city roads.

Compared to the NS200, the Pulsar RS200 features a longer swingarm and a shorter wheelbase which makes the bike very poise. Whether you want to enjoy cruising through the corners or want your bike to make a sudden direction change, RS200 is ready for it. The perimeter frame makes the handling character very precise.

Pulsar RS200’s alliance with the MRF Zapper tyres is perhaps one of the biggest highlights in terms of a safe ride. The grip and the performance give the rider enough confidence and support to sail through the sharpest of corners.

The RS 200 is also the first Pulsar to receive an ABS. It is an excellent addition to the safety feature of the bike.

How comfortable is the Pulsar RS 200?

Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 is one of the most comfortable Pulsar motorcycle based on the ergonomic seat, handling, and other upgrades.

The bike maintains a steady balance even at higher RPMs and produces much fewer vibrations that enhance comfort and handling. The exhaust’s sound is not too harsh, neither too low but just pleasant enough to give the ‘superbike feel.

The engine of RS200 is similar to the NS200 along with the same stroke, bottom end and bore. But one addition that makes a real difference is the fuel injection which makes the engine smoother, power delivery more predictable and the throttle response more firm.

As mentioned above, the RS200 is the first in the family to be equipped with an ABS. While it's a single-channel ABS, therefore, it works only on the front wheel. This can be a slight drawback when it comes to a panic situation, as light braking will not lock the front wheel, but the rear will lock up with enough might.

Therefore, it is advisable to use both brakes in an emergency. While the rear does slides, it is much more manageable. The 300mm front rotor gives the brake a robust bite and feels along with effortless control.

How is the tech in Pulsar RS 200?

The centre console has a digital fuel indicator along with an analogue tachometer, which has been retained from its previous models.

The right console sports a tiny display comprising of two trip meters, a speedometer and a side-stand indicator. Conversely, the left side features an oil level, turn indicator and a battery indicator.

The cluster further has a blue backlight which gives it a very fresh appeal. RS 200 also features two buttons to adjust the trip meter and time, but they are not user friendly. Unlike the 220F and NS200, the rear-view mirrors of Pulsar RS200 have been upgraded to much clear visibility.

How is the mileage of Pulsar RS 200?

Bajaj claims to offer a mileage of 35 kmpl and boasts a fuel tank with a capacity of 13 litres. Now due to the ABS unit and additional fairing, the bike weight has increased by 20 kg. While the weight has not affected the comfort or performance, it will indeed affect the mileage.

Overall, you can expect to cross the 300 kilometres target with a full fuel tank.

How is the performance of Pulsar RS 200?

The Bajaj bike is powered by a 199.5 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that generates a 24.2 bhp at 9750 rpm along with a maximum torque of 18.6 Nm at 8000 rpm. It is well suited for a daily ride and cruising through busy roads because of its balanced aggression and comfortable handling.

Unlike its predecessor, RS 200’s engine is much more mature and has a level of exemplary refinement. After you surpass the 4,000 rpm, the Pulsar bike is just a joy to ride. The six-speed gearbox offers precise shifts as it is mated with the single-cylinder engine. The clutch feels well-weighted and light to use.

The overall performance of the new Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 is commendable as it a well-balanced bike. While it functions as a road bike, it has enough features to satisfy the riders on the race track.

Is the Pulsar RS 200 a good value?

At Rs. 1.5 Lac, the Pulsar RS 200 is the only bike with an ABS, which is a considerable safety addition. The performance with its 199.5cc engine is also commendable. Adding to this is the ergonomics, which gives maximum comfort while riding. When you also account for the aggressive design which the RS200 features, it's almost irresistible for a bike lover to let this beast go at this price range.

While there is still scope for improvement in terms of mileage, finish and aesthetic appeal, but Bajaj seems to be on the right track with its Pulsar brand.

It certainly is worth buying, especially if you have your other options in the same range. • Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 vs Competition

Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 vs Yamaha YZF R15 V3 vs KTM RC 125

Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 competes in the sports bike market with Yamaha YZF R15 V3 and KTM RC 125. Let's go through an in-depth analysis to understand this competition better:

    • Talking about engine displacement, the Pulsar RS 200 surpasses the Yamaha R15 V3 and KTM RC 125 by a large margin when you compare its almost 200cc with Yamaha R15's 155cc and KTM RC's 125cc.
    • Due to its robust and refined engine, which is now upgraded with fuel injection, Pulsar offers a power of 24.2 bhp at 9750 rpm along with a maximum torque of 18.6 Nm at 8000 rpm which gives a perfect balance of aggression and comfortable handling.
    • When you compare RS200's power and torque to that of Yamaha R15 V3, which generates a maximum power of 18.37 bhp and maximum torque of 14.1 Nm at 8,500 rpm, the stark difference is clear.
    • Similarly, the KTM RC 125 is also not as robust as the Pulsar RS200. The former generates a maximum power of 14.5 bhp and 12 Nm of torque.
    • Mileage-wise, the Yamaha R15 V3 is miles ahead of the list, with 43 kmpl followed by KTM RC 125's 40 kmpl, whereas the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 offers just 35 kmpl.
    • But, in terms of the fuel tank, the story changes with RS200 boasting a capacity of 13 litres, whereas Yamaha R15 and KTM RC 125 have 11 litres and 9.5 litres tank, respectively.
    • In terms of colour variants, the Bajaj Sports bike offers high versatility with three colours, whereas the Yamaha R15 V3 provides a single shade and KTM RC 125 offers dual shades.
    • In terms of comfort and handling, the natural winner is the Pulsar RS200 as the Yamaha R15 feels uncomfortable for pillion and the riding position it offers is quite aggressive. Similar is the case with KTM RC 125. But due to the upgrades of Bajaj Pulsar RS200, the sitting spot is comfortable, and you can enjoy the racing stances in the tracks as well as sitting straight and relish cruising the city roads.
    • Finally, speaking about the on-road prices in Delhi, KTM RC 125 is the most expensive one with a price starting at Rs. 1.85 lakh onwards, followed by the Bajaj Pulsar RS200, which comes at Rs. 1.82 lakh. Finally, the Yamaha R15 V3 is priced at  Rs. 1.77 lakh.

All You Need to Know About the Pulsar RS 200

Bajaj Pulsar has always enjoyed a cult fan following. With the new model launched in 2015, and the regular updates with the BS6 being the latest, here is everything you need to know about the Chakan-based bike maker’s new motorcycle.

The Pulsar RS 200 has only one variant and is available in three different colours: burnt red, metallic pearl white, and pewter grey. The first RS200 model was priced at around Rs. 1.3 Lakhs.

The current Pulsar RS200 BS6 is available at  Rs. 1.53 Lakhs in the ex-showroom in the capital city of New Delhi.

The Pulsar RS200 is powered by a 199.5 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which produces 24.2 bhp at 9750 rpm along with a maximum torque of 18.6 Nm at 8000 rpm. It offers the perfect balance of aggression and easy handling.

Enhancing the safety feature, the bikes come with a single-channel anti-lock braking system or the ABS. The braking is done by a front disc of 300 mm. You will have to utilise both the brakes in an emergency, else, the front wheel won’t look like an effortless breaking. It also features a telescopic front suspension with an anti-friction bush.

With a heavy frontline design where the romance of decals is visible, Bajaj has given the RS200 a very aggressive look. Features inspired by rattlesnake in the front also make it look menacing and undoubtedly appealing.

The Pulsar RS 200 bikes have a tank capacity of 13 L and offer a mileage of 35 kmpl. At the same time, the mileage is average and falls short of its competitors like Yamaha YZF and KTM RC125, and both boast a milage of over 40 kmpl.

In terms of features, the Pulsar bike has every required part. For instance, the centre console of the RS 200 features a digital fuel indicator along with an analogue tachometer, which the Pulsar family has retained. The right console sports a tiny display comprising two trip meters, a speedometer, and a side-stand indicator. The left side features an oil-level, turn indicator, and battery indicator.

The on-road price of the Pulsar sports bike is Rs. 1,82,034. The on-road price is for the capital city, Delhi. The price might vary in other cities.

With the Pulsar RS 200 BS6, Bajaj is competing with Yamaha YZF R15 V3, KTM RC 125 and KTM 125 Duke. While it doesn’t surpass the Yamaha R15 in terms of mileage and performance, it certainly gives the other a tough challenge in terms of comfort, handling and presenting a balanced output.
