Bajaj Pulsar 220F Expert Review

The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is the first bike that is affordable and yet a performance bike for the masses.

Bajaj engineers have added more maps in the CDI unit which has now risen from two in the older motor to five in the new engine. The bore and stroke haven’t been changed but the new engine gets an air-injection system that infuses cooler air into the exhaust gases and reduces the emission of harmful gases. Other emission norms related changes include Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP), bigger catalytic converter, while the intake and exhaust manifold has been completely redesigned.

All You Need to Know About the Pulsar 220F

The Bajaj Pulsar 220F as suggested by the name has a 220 cc engine that has BS6 certification. There is a 5-speed gearbox. The power of the bike can go up to 20.4 ps and a torque of 18.55 Nm. There are disc brakes in the front and the rear. The bike weighs 160 kg and it has a fuel tank that has a capacity of 15 litres. There is a fuel-injected motor that gives 20.4 PS. There is a telescopic fork at the front and there are twin shock absorbers at the rear.

Bajaj Auto recently introduced the Pulsar 220F with new colours in India. The semi-faired motorcycle is now available in a choice of four paint schemes. First up the Volcanic Red colour that comes with black and white graphics that feature on the fuel tank, belly cowl and tail section. Then there is the Sapphire Blue paint that also comes with the same combination of graphics. You could also have the Bajaj Pulsar 220F in Sparkle Black or Pearl White, both of which sports red graphics and rim tape.

Along with the introduction of the new colours, Bajaj also hiked the price of the Pulsar 220F by Rs 3,000. The motorcycle is now priced at Rs 1.28 lakh (ex-showroom). Apart from the new paint schemes, the Pulsar 220F remains the same as the previous models using a 220cc, oil-cooled engine that produces 20.11bhp at 8,500 rpm and 18.55Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. This motor comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. As for features, the Pulsar 220F comes with a semi-digital instrument cluster, LED tail lamp, and a distinctively styled halogen projector headlamp.

The Pulsar 220F has undisputedly claimed its spot in the hearts of Indian youth for more than a decade now. When Bajaj launched the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi, it revolutionised the Indian biking scene, such that it is held as a reference point to this day. With the 2019 iteration getting a much-needed ABS upgrade, Bajaj has joined the line of bike manufacturers wanting to make their motorcycles safer on the roads.

The Pulsar 220F is a bike that needs no introduction. Right from its get-go to its modern-day avatar, the 220F has stood out of the crowd, only because of its unique design and out-of-the-box concept. The idea of a semi-faired motorcycle, with the agility of a naked, the performance of a supersport and the mileage of a scooter, the 220F made a clear statement about its intentions to rule the Indian markets, which it has been doing since.

When Bajaj originally came up with the design for 220F, they intended it to be something quite unlike what roamed the roads in those days. Hence, instead of coming up with a new design using existing components, they decided to make their own Frankenstein’s monster, by combining some of the most advanced technologies at the time. Sporting a fuel injector, oil cooling, digital dash, rear disc brake and clip-on handlebars, the 220F was a fully functional and potent sports bike, in an age when people didn’t know the definition of a sports bike.

Though the 2019 iteration of the 220F does not get any mechanical updates, it gets extra belly pan graphics, along with some aesthetic changes for a fresh look. As for the performance, the 220F brought to life by a single-cylinder, DTS-I Engine (Which is a patent technology of Bajaj, and stands for Digital Twin ignition Technology) engine, producing 20.9 Ps of power and 18.55 Nm of torque. It is priced at Rs. 1.05 Lakh ex-showroom.
