Hero Splendor Plus Expert Review

How is the design of the Hero Splendor Plus?

Hero MotoCorp, the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, has upgraded its most demanded commuter motorcycle range, Splendor, to meet all the BS-VI norms.

Pros & Cons of Splendor Plus

Pros

  • A very fuel-efficient engine that delivers 70 kmpl mileage, making it highly economical

  • Easy to handle due to its lightweight body of only 110 kg

  • The after-sales wide service network and brand value of Hero

Cons

  • Both the headlamp and the taillamp miss out on LEDs

  • No changes have been made in terms of the design of the bike (compared to the previous Splendor models)

  • The bike is not equipped with a disc brake system

People also ask For

  • The Hero Splendor Plus is available in four variants:-

    • Self Start BS-VI - Rs. 69,380
    • Self Start BS-VI i3s - Rs. 70,700
    • Black and Accent Edition - Rs. 70,700
    • Self Start Drum Brake i3S Matt Shield Gold - Rs. 71,700
    • XTEC - Rs. 72,900

Looking at the various features that this bike offers, it is sure to be worth the amount paid. Moreover, it also comes with a standard 5-year warranty from Hero MotoCorp.

  • The Hero Splendor Plus, as of mid-2020, is one of the most affordable motorcycles in the Hero India range. Being a conventional motorcycle, this bike is equipped with all those features that a rider looks out for, for a comfortable journey. Hero hasn't compromised on any aspect - be it design, or performance, or engine, or brakes, or anything else making this bike a pure delight and worth the value.

  • Hero HF 100 is yet another affordable commuter bike by Hero which is almost the same as the Splendor Plus. However, what makes Splendor Plus a better option is its i3s system, integrated braking system, colour and model variants, and much stronger body. But, if the price is the concern, then HF 100 is a better option as it costs only Rs.49,400.

  • The Hero Splendor Plus 100 million edition is the best, but it is available in limited numbers. So, going next, the self-start BS-VI i3s variant is the best only because of the added safety feature that it offers. The idle-start-stop system helps to save fuel and cut down running costs, which ultimately results in a better long-run price efficiency. Hero has been making such commuter bikes for a long time in India, and ever since, they have been revising and reintroducing different models and trying to make travelling as fast, safe, budget-friendly, and comfortable as possible.

  • The most competitive bikes to Hero Splendor Plus are Hero HF 100, Bajaj Platina 100, and TVS XL 100. All these bikes are good in terms of their design, performance, speed, tech, or any other consideration. However, a detailed comparison between these bikes will help you understand which one is the best out of them. For the same purpose, we have separated the entire comparison based on certain factors:-

    Pricing:

In this regard, Hero Splendor Plus is a little costly bike ranging between Rs. 61,000-67,000. However, it also offers premium features which suit this price. The TVS XL 100 is the cheapest model priced around Rs. 46,000, followed by Hero HF 100 which is priced at Rs. 49,400, and then the Bajaj Platina 100 priced at Rs. 53,120.

    Body Dimensions:

Looking at the L x B x H of these models, we saw Hero HF 100 and Hero Splendor Plus has a similar sizing of 1965 x 720 x 1045 mm and 1970 x 720 x 1040 mm respectively. The Bajaj Platina 100 is comparatively spacious having dimensions of 2066 x 713 x 1100 mm. The TVS XL 100 is the smallest.

    Colours:

Hero Splendor Plus is available in four vibrant colours as compared to the single colour combination of Hero HF 100, 6 variations of Bajaj Platina 100, and 12 colours of TVS XL 100.

    Weight:

In this regard the TVS XL 100 is the lightest, weighing only 89 kg, followed by Hero HF 100 and Hero Splendor Plus at 110 kg. The Bajaj Platina weighs 115 kg, being the heaviest.

    Engine Performance:

The TVS XL 100 gets a 99.7 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine generating maximum power of 4.4 bhp and a maximum torque of 6.5 Nm.

    Fuel economy and tank capacity:

The Bajaj Platina 100 and Hero Splendor Plus get an 11-litre tank capacity. On the other hand, the Hero HF 100 only has a 9.1-litre capacity and the TVS XL remains nowhere in competition with only a 4-litre capacity.

    Braking System:

All four bikes are equipped with the same set of drum brakes on both ends.

    Suspension System:

The Hero HF 100 and Hero Splendor Plus are suspended on telescopic forks upfront and hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. The Bajaj Platina 100 is suspended on hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and SoS suspensions at the rear. Finally, the TVS XL has a telescopic spring-type hydraulic suspension at the front and a swing arm hydraulic shock at the rear, which is the weakest.

    Wheels:

The Hero Splendor Plus gets an 18 inches alloy wheel structure with tubeless tires whereas the Bajaj Platina 100 and Hero HF 100 have a 17-inch alloy wheel. Finally, the three competitor bikes of Hero Splendor Plus come with a kick start option only, whereas we get to see both the variants (kick start and self-start) in Splendor Plus.
